Well this is the section where I tell you who I am, what I do, and why I’m here. I’m not really a talk a lot about myself person, so I find I’m a little embarrassed writing this. But for those of you who are interested, this is me (and the family) in a nutshell.
|My husband and I|
I am married to a great guy. My hubby is a pilot for FedEx. And like most pilots, he’s gone a lot. Which actually is why I do so many DIY projects. You see, my husband does not share my love of DIY, so when he leaves I go crazy. After 10 years we have it down to a science. He leaves on a trip. I take on a project. I make a mess. I finish project. I clean up. He comes home. He admires my handiwork. He’s happy to miss the chaos. I’m happy because I got to do something new. It may be weird, but it works for us. Occasionally when I’m really adventurous, he even picks up an extra trip to pay for said adventure.

Besides the husband, I also have a daughter Sydney, and an enormous dog named Turbulence. More about Sydney first. She’s amazing (Who doesn’t think their kids are amazing?). She eight years old and going into 3rd grade. She’s a tall blonde with blue eyes. Which basically means that my genes don’t appear to be present at all! And she’s turning into a really good soccer player too! My dog Turbulence or Turbo for short is a mutant oversized black lab who’s 10 years old and thinks he’s still a puppy. At 125 lbs. a little maturity would be nice, but after 10 years I’ve given up hope.
|Turbo is not a fan of the camera.|
We live in Lakeland, TN which is a suburb of Memphis. We moved here three years ago, into our dream house. Well, it’s got dream house potential anyway, there’s always room for improvement. Our house is roughly double size of our last home, so the decorating is taking a while. It took almost three years for me to get living room furniture. In fact I used it as a photography studio since I had nothing in there for years. Not the best first impression when you invite someone in, but that’s how we roll. Sometimes when I have to move furniture and drag lights and backdrops down from the attic for a photo shoot, I miss those days!

Now that I’ve gabbed about my family, which in case you can’t tell I don’t mind talking about at all! I’ll tell you about me. My real life job is as a graphic designer. I have a graphic design company and I love my job! So DIY has to happen between keeping clients happy. But sometimes I think I like my job so much I’d do it for free. Shh! Don’t tell my clients that!
Like most creative people, I can’t shut it off, which is how I got into DIY and home decorating to begin with. I don’t like my house to look like other people’s houses. And I’m your typical cheapskate. I hate paying for anything, I’d rather do it on my own and have it be unique. And when we were first starting out, buying/hiring wasn’t even a possibility. Now it’s just ingrained in me that I can do it. And if I’m honest, I’d rather do it myself.
