DIY Picture Frames
I have finally gotten around to hanging up my finished laundry room art!
It took me a long time to do this project, and for several days there were picture frames all over my kitchen table in several different stages of being caulked and painted. But it’s finally finished and I love how it turned out! If you’d like to see how I did the paintings, check here. The tutorial for the DIY picture frames is below.
I started by purchasing 3 1/2″ mdf boards because they are cheap. I also purchased screen molding because it’s some of the cheapest molding you can buy. You’ll also need a miter saw and a nail gun or staple gun. Plus I used liquid nails and caulk.
Another hint is that you don’t have to keep switching your angle from 45 to 135. Just flip the board over and the angle will be correct without changing the angle of your miter saw.
When I had my MDF cut, I laid fit them together, added Liquid Nails in the seams, and then used a staple gun to staple the seams together. You can also use a nail gun if you have the right length of nails. I didn’t have that. I also had a wussy staple gun, if you have nice thick strong staples, it will be easier to move the frames around before the liquid nails dry.
Now I had a frame, but the problem is that my canvas is the same height as the wood, so I needed to add another piece of wood to the frame to hold the canvas inside. That’s where the screen molding came in.
Unfortunately I didn’t have a wide enough angle lense to capture the pictures with my DSLR. I had to use my iphone to take the picture in such a small room.
Well that’s the finished product. What do you think?
