Well here it is… my Christmas Home Tour! I kept putting it off because I wanted to finish my beaded stocking project, but it’s taking forever so we will just have to go with it as is. I also wanted to wrap presents to put under the trees because I like to do pretty presents in wrapping paper that coordinates with my trees, but I haven’t wrapped a single thing yet, and the only presents I have my husband wrapped. Since he doesn’t come home until Christmas Eve he got his shopping done early. However every year he ignores my wrapping rules of coordinating paper. And let’s be honest, coordinating wrapping paper is not high on the guy priority list.
Anyway we will start with the room I like the least and go the rooms I like the best. So if you stick with this long post, I promise… it will get better!
First up is our hearth room off of the kitchen. This is where we have what my daughter refers to as the “fun tree”. It has all the random ornaments collected over the past 11 years, and no particular color scheme other than some purple and silver ribbon and tree skirt. My daughter loves this tree because it’s really fun to reminisce about where we got each ornament, and we have lots of black lab ornaments, and ones that say Sydney. We also have enough airplane ornaments that we could have another tree just decorated with airplanes. Hmmm! Not a bad idea! Maybe next year.
This is the fireplace, also in the Hearth Room. I have a lighted garland with purple and silver accents, and the purple velvet stockings I am still in the process of beading.
Next I have some odds and ends in this room. Candles and stuff that are in different places around the room.
Next up is my breakfast area that has my kitchen table in it. I have a table runner which is decorated with some votive candles and sparkly purple snowflake ornaments. In the middle is a centerpiece that coordinates with the hearth room fireplace mantel. The breakfast room, kitchen and hearth room are all open to each other as you can see in my floorplan post here.
Next up is the foyer. We will start with the wreath on the inside of the front door. You can find this wreath tutorial here.
We also have a staircase in our two story foyer. I wrapped the banister in lighted garland with silver ribbon and bows. In the center of the upper railing there are several oversize ornaments hanging down.
Also in the foyer is our hall table. This has a collection of silver trees. Silver is my color that ties all my rooms together. I have little shiny silver rocks spread all over the top to contrast with the black granite surface. I’m not usually a very over the top decorator, but for Christmas I think the more the better! It’s the one time of year that I can’t have too much bling.
From the foyer we go into the dining room. I apologize because I know these pictures are really dark. I had to take them at night and it’s just too far for my flash to reach.
We will start with the buffet, which is the highlight of the room. It has mercury glass candlesticks and Christmas trees placed on top. In the center is a silver airplane teapot for a bit of whimsy (and in need of some silver polish –sorry about that!).
I hung a silver glittered wreath on the mirror using a suction cup hook so the mounting is hidden.
On the table I have navy velvet place mats and napkins. The napkins have fun name tag silver napkin rings. I have a total of ten silver candlesticks of varying heights and designs. In the center of the table there is a beaded table runner in silver and white. In the center of the table runner, I have a bowl filled with “snow” and silver pine cones.
The table settings are special Christmas china that I was lucky enough to find in my existing china pattern. So I was able to just buy the tree plates and mugs and then use all my regular china to fill in the spaces since they are all matching. I love this china!
Finally we have the living room. This is my favorite room in the house. Part of that is because a lot of my furniture (like the purple stuff in the hearth room) is eleven years old, and I would like to think I’ve grown as a designer since then. This is the first “new” room I’ve been able to do in my house. And it’s not complete, but it’s still my very favorite.
I have a little side table in this room decorated simply in silver trees. I admit this is not my favorite vignette, but this room has only had furniture for a year, and I can’t buy it all at once. I am hoping to get some new stuff in the after Christmas sales this year.
I have a tree in the corner. We got this tree new last year and it’s actually tall enough to reach the ceiling. I decorated it in silver and white, and the tree skirt got a ruffle extension this year. The post on that is here. Because the tree goes all the way to the ceiling, I just put a bow on it since there is no room for a star.
Next we will go to the fireplace in this room. I decorated it with some white and silver decorations mounted with suction cups and some red trees purchased on clearance last year at Target after Christmas. There are some silver and red mercury glass votives that look beautiful when lit. I have a silvery beaded garland hanging below and my dollar store stockings that I remade with ruffles. You will find that tutorial here.
That’s it for the home tour! If you made it this far, thanks so much for hanging in there and letting me share my home with you. I’d love to hear what you think. Merry Christmas to all!
