Well, I looked high and low for oil-rubbed bronze canisters, and couldn’t find anything I liked that was affordable so I decided I was going to have use oil rubbed bronze spray paint and make my own canisters. I found a set at Costco that was very reasonable and I thought the labels were cute. I used them for a few months, but I didn’t like how much the white contrasted against the slate back splash and black granite. I don’t want them to be the highlight of the kitchen, just kind of recess into the background. So following my third rule of DIY, “You can spray paint anything” I decided to spray paint them.
First I cleaned them all up and wiped them dry.
Then I pulled off the rubber ring that makes the lids seal up tight. It wasn’t glued on, so this was an easy step.
I added tape around the top and covered the top with aluminum foil. I only wanted to paint the areas that don’t come in contact with food.
I used Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze and spray painted everything.
I love how it turned out! Now they blend in a little more with the backsplash.
That’s it, so simple, and I think they look a lot better.
What have you transformed with spray paint? I’d love to see!
